OUR PROCEDURES MANUAL THE THREE DAY WORKSHOP THE ONE DAY WORKSHOP
1. OUR PROCEDURES MANUAL
The Procedures Manual on Flame Painting Copper is a great way to get started in this unique art form. It comes with an Equipment, Tools and Materials list that we have compiled over the years which includes where to find your set up for flame painting. The Manual shares 51 years of combined experience in flame painting from Skip and I and over 10 years of teaching this medium as well. The Manual comes with
our story here at Copper Colorists and
what flame painting really is,
the procedures for drawing and painting copper with a flame
a long version with much detail and
a short version to set up next to you as you begin to practice and build skills.
It also includes illustrations for the two flames needed to draw and paint, the positions of the torch for soldering and drawing and coloring, and of course color charts for the ground colors and the reduction colors. There are tips for adjusting your flame for each procedure, more notes on the colors, and a list of the rules for getting the best colors. You will be able to watch our two videos from our website to gain understanding as well.
If you would like to order the Manual:
The Procedures Manual is $30 plus $4 for shipping and handling.
Just email me, Racheal, at firstname.lastname@example.org and give me your mailing address and make sure I have your email address.
Then I will email you a Square Invoice to pay with a credit/debit card. When it is paid and you have sent me your mailing address, I will drop the manual in the mail for you.
Or call me at 417-527-8449 (leave me a message and your phone number if I don't answer) and I can make payment over the phone. Also, if you need to, you may send me a check through the mail. This will of course take longer.
*We send our manuals to other countries as well and will just let you know the shipping amount needed for your particular address.
2. THE THREE DAY WORKSHOP Currently we offer a three day workshop once a year, the next one is on March 13-15, 2019. This workshop takes place where we have our studio/shop at the Ozark Folk Center's Craft Village in Mountain View, MO and is during their Folk School Spring Classes each year. The following is all the information you need for this workshop:
PREREQUISITES Instructor approval is required to take this workshop. We have found that people with certain physical handicaps and eye problems will not succeed. And it is most important that you know how to solder with a torch, as you will be making your own pieces to flame paint and we have no time to teach that in this course. We offer a one day, one on one, soldering workshop at our studio any day that is convenient for all, but at least a week before the three day workshop. Please call Racheal at 417-527-8449 to get approval and make arrangements for either of these workshops.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKSHOP During this workshop you will learn the basic techniques and procedures for creating shapes, patterns and colors on copper with a torch. You’ll also learn the best ways to get, seal and keep those colors.
By the end of the course, you will complete several flame colored projects and will leave with the Procedures Manual and equipment list. This will enable you to set up your own home studio and begin building skills in this wonderful medium.
Note that although this process is exciting to learn, this is not an easy art form to control. It usually takes several years of practice to begin getting the patterns and colors one is aiming for. So, this is not for your everyday hobbyist, but for those who are more “serious” about learning this art form. Please call Racheal to make sure this workshop is right for you.
TOOLS These are the tools that are essentioal for working copper and you canbring any of these to the three day workshop, although we will have them here for each student as well:
Long nose plier
Wire cutter for small work like jewelry – also at Lowe’s
Flat nose plier
Ball Peen Hammer
Vice Grip for holding your piece while heating - the Huskey at Lowe's
$350 is the cost for the teaching and is due to Skip and Racheal at the beginning of class. They accept; cash and major credit card.
$60 is the registration fee due to the Ozark Folk Center once you are approved by Racheal. Then you can call the Folk Center at 870-269-3851 to register.
$45 is the materials fee ($30 if you already have the manual) and it covers materials used in the workshop and is also due at the beginning of the workshop. Whatever is left goes home with students to use as start up materisls.
$455 then is the TOTAL COST.
*Minimum number of students is 3 and maximum is 4 for the three day workshop. But, if just 2 sign up, we can still do the workshop for $525 each for the three days. And if just 1 signs up, the price is $675 (which is the same for 3 days of independent study explained below).
REGISTRATION To register, get approval from Racheal at 417-527-8449...please call in the evenings. Then call the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, AR at 870-269-3851. Ask to register for the Folk School Spring Class on Flame Painting Copper on March 13-15, 2019 and pay the $60 registration fee at that time. You can also ask them about their Dry Creek Lodge for an economical place to stay in Mountain View.
3. ONE DAY INDEPENDENT STUDY WORKSHOPS
Our one day independent study workshop is a great way to start building skills in this medium! You will basically learn the same thing as in the three day workshop explained above except in a shorter time and with one-on-one instruction. Then you get to go home to practice and build skills in flame painting. You can also go home with our Procedures Manual and an equipment, tools and materials, list if you don't already have these.
For those who already have the Procedures Manual and have already begun to build skills, this one day workshop is an excellent way to let us take you to the next level in flame painting copper.
PREREQUISITE The prerequisite for this one day workshop is the same as for the three day workshop; you must know how to solder with a torch and get approved! If you need instruction in soldering, we can send you to some You Tube video links to help. Or you can add a second day to your workshop and we will be able to teach both soldering and flame painting at the same time. The cost for the two day independent study is $450 ($225 per day). Call Racheal at 417-527-8449 in the evenings to get approval and to arrange what day/days to come that will work for all.
TOOLS You don't have to bring tools for the one day workshop, but you can if you'd like.
$20 is the registration fee per day.
$250 is the cost for teaching the one day workshop and is due to Skip and Racheal at the beginning of the workshop; cash or major credit card.
No materials fee for the one day workshop. You still don't have to bring your own tools, but you can bring your own projects that you want us to help you with and tools you may have questions about.
$270 then is the TOTAL COST.
